Sad News

We have some sad news. Our dog Katie was hit by a truck last nite and was killed. She never has gone in the road before, but it only takes once. It was a pretty sad time for all of us, she was a good dog and my little buddy. I miss you, Kate.

Scott, I will never forget my now 10 yr old son Andy had caught a crawdad down at the creek that runs through our property. I will never understand how children can become so attached to small critters but he did. Unfortunately, Buster the crawdad died 3 days later and Andy was so distraught. I almost told him to suck it up and get over it, but I felt the leading of the Lord to take a little time and have some understanding. I had Andy get Buster and we had a funeral down at the creek. As we were walking to the creek I began to sing a song that from my Boy Scout days: O come come come to the Church in the Wildwood.
Andy started crying so hard that I started crying as I began to think that Andy was so innocent. We dropped Buster in the creek and as he floated off I will never forget Andy asking me if Buster was in heaven. What an opportunity to tell him how God gave us the animals for our well being and that only we have spirits that can commune with God. And to think, I almost told him to get over it.
Sorry for your family's loss.......

I give you my condolences as well. Dogs are amazing creatures of God. They were designed to work with man in stewarding the earth. Having been a police officer years ago and able to observe firsthand the teamwork between an officer and his dog, I learned how incredibly loyal and dedicated they are to the work their masters put before them, even to the point of death. I am partial to Australian Shepherds, which, besides being amazing herders, are great watch dogs and family companions. I encourage you to read the book by Keller, Lessons From a Sheep Dog.
