Breaking News!

It is with a thankful heart and beer in hand that I report this breaking news story. Arhen Lea Imperial Elsie is now EX 91 at 14 years of age! We also had 2 new Excellents, Ter-View Top Prize Sondra and Ter-Veiw Choise Mia. Sondra is just fresh with her 2nd calf and was scored for the first time, she was to fresh the first time around. Mia was raised from VG87. Ella, my favorite Counsellor daughter was raised to VG87 as well. We did some 2 year olds today with the lowest one being 81 and the highest being 85. All in all it was a very good day. With the "big day" out of the way, I hope to get back the blog and answer some emails.

Of course I am 98% ignorant or what you are saying, but at least I can rejoice with you over what, by your account, seems to have been a very wonderful day.

Praise the LORD for his goodness to his people.

I'm with Jon (ignorant!), so please forgive my cluelessness, but what do all those names and numbers mean? Whatever it is, it sounds like you're very pleased, so congratulations and to God be the glory!

We rejoice in your accomplishments!

Thanks guys :)

Andy,

It was a feller named.......gee, I forgot already. Never had him before, a young guy. The Ivans are doing well. I think they'll be even better when they calve in again.

Everyone else,

Think of the perfect cow (no such thing BTW) being scored 100. The closest anyone has ever got in the history of cattle breeding is a few 97 pointers, there are 3 or 4 living jerseys that high out of the millions on the planet. Cows are scored by how close they are to perfect true type model. There is a uniform score card that gives values (# or points) for each individual trait. At the end it is calculated to come up with a final score.

In the jersey breed....
Excellent is 90 or above
Very Good is 80 thru 89
Desirable is 70 thru 79
Poor is anything lower.

Elsie was already Excellent, but was raised to EX91. Most of the cows Leah and I own are out of this maternal line.

This whole scoring thing is how I judge the success of our breeding program. It is also an important part of the cow's pedigree. This is important for marketing our cattle to other breeders.
